Characteristics

The common sandpiper often appears alone near the water. These birds like to be around the sea or marshes. They often fly low and hover above the water surface. When they stand, they often wiggle their head and tail up and down.
Habits: The common sandpiper feeds mainly on insects and invertebrates.
Winter/Common, Resident/Uncommon; Body length: 16 cm
Birdwatching period: September-May
